NOOK

What is NOOK?

Renting a home can be really challenging when you're just starting out, or maybe rebounding from who knows what. Maybe you're in college and working a minimum wage job to get by. Minimum wage doesn't cover rent in even a studio apartment. So what do you do?

Teaming up with roommates used to be normal. But, now most property management companies and landlords aren't interested in the fact that you and your friends together can make rent. They want guarantees that each of you can make rent on your own.

With NOOK, you can rent a room. That's right, you rent the room where you sleep and share the rest of the house.

The important stuff is covered:

  • Everyone in the house is screened.

  • Every roommate has their own lease so you can't get evicted for other's behavior

  • You are only responsible for your rent

  • If you don't like your roommate we will either help you get along or help you find alternate housing

We cover the little stuff too.

We know move-in costs can be stressful. We have payment plans for security deposits that we can even extend into longer term savings plans. We prorate rent and only charge from the agreed move-in date.

We divvy up your utilities based on the size of your room and the number of people living in the space. You can choose a smaller room and pay less or a larger room and pay more. We try to make it as fair as possible.

If you need help moving in, sometimes we can help with that too.

Roommate agreements are part of your lease. These agreements are community driven and only facilitated by NOOK. "House Rules" won't ever contradict the lease, but otherwise can be pretty lenient or strict based on what everyone can agree upon.

NOOK maintains a wait-list of people looking for rooms. No applicant will ever be screened out based on sex, race and color, religion and creed, national origin, sexual orientation, gender identity and gender expression, disability and the use of a trained dog guide or service animal, and/or honorably discharged veteran or military status. However, NOOK does prioritize the wait-list for students in good standing at a college, university, or tech school.
